Hackathons are becoming increasingly popular, not only in the academia but also the industry as a time-bound, collaborative problem-solving exercise. However, it's awareness is limited to metros and large cities. A large number of students as well as the teachers are not aware of the details and the advantages of organising and participating in Hackathons.

It is with this objective in mind, we have planned this interactive event about Hackathons. The event will touch base on the preparation, conduct and the aftermath of a Hackathon. We have also invited some Hackathon organisers (students as well as faculty members), who will share their first-hand experiences.

We believe that our network of the faculty members and the students at the remote centers, should be aware of this vibrant and unique platform to inculcate the problem-solving spirit.

Incidentally, a national event "Smart India Hackathon 2017" is being organised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India in collaboration with MyGov, NASSCOM, UGC, i4c and Persistent Systems. It involves all technology institutions (6500+) across India and 3 - 5 million plus students.

"Smart India Hackathon 2017" will challenge students for developing innovative digital solutions for over 600 problem statements identified by 25+ Govt. ministries/ institutions/departments. These includes Ministry of Railways, External Affairs Ministry, Ministry of Defense, Indian Space Research Organization, Dept. of Atomic Energy, etc. Till date, approximately 600 problems statements have been proposed and can be viewed on and

Who Should Attend

This event is open for both students and teachers of any institute. The live video transmission will be conducted at the participating remote centers of IIT Bombay.

Duration and Venue

The duration of this programme is half day. It commences on Monday, 16th January, 2017 from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm.

The participating remote centers would be functioning as venues.

How to Apply

To register for this event you need to follow the below steps:

  • Sign up using your valid email id.
  • After verification, your account will be created
  • Login on the website with the verified account
  • Go to Announcements, Select the programme and register.
  • After successful registration, you will receive an automated email.
  • Your name will also be listed in the “List of Participants page”.

Enrollment will be strictly online, and no other mode of application will be entertained.
The last date of Online registration is 16 January 2017, 12:00 Noon.


Remote centers have limited number of seats, so kindly note that the seats will be filled on first come first serve basis. If you are unable to go to a Remote Center, you have the option to watch this event live on our YouTube Channel.

Please note that Remote Center is a place from where the participants/people can interact with the instructor (faculty at IIT) who delivers a lecture from IIT Bombay. The live lectures are transmitted to RC using A-VIEW software.
