Dr. Deepak B. Phatak is with IIT Bombay since 1971. He was invited to head the Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology set up in October 1998 at the Institute and was appointed to the Subrao Nilekani Chair in the School in January 2000. His research interests are in the areas of Data Bases and Information Systems, Software Engineering, System Performance Evaluation, IT enabled Education and IT strategy planning. His primary research inclinations are in Technology application and deployment areas.
Prof. Krithi Ramamritham is currently at IIT Bombay as Head of Department, KReSIT and as the Vijay & Sita Vashee Chair professor in the Deptartment Of Computer Science & Engineering. He is a fellow of the IEEE, ACM. His areas of interest include real time systems, transaction processing in Database Systems and real-time database systems.
Shetal Shah is a research scholar at CSE, IIT Bombay, working under Prof. Krithi Ramamritham. Her current work involves building content dissemination networks for dynamic data. Her areas of interest include Internet research, databases, algorithms, and compilers.
Dr. A. Kumaran heads the Multilingual Systems Research group in Microsoft Research India, located in Bangalore. He completed his doctoral degree from Indian Institute of Science in the area of Multilingual Databases. Before Microsoft Research, he has worked for nearly a dozen years at the Oracle Corporation and at Bell Communications Research, where he was involved in developing document processing components for database systems.
Dr. Mukesh Mohania is a Research Staff Member at IBM India Research Lab, Delhi, and manages a database group. He has worked in the areas of distributed databases, data warehousing, semistructured databases, and autonomic computing. He was awarded Technical Achievement Award in the area of Web Database Management and Data Warehousing by Association of Database and Expert Systems Applications in Greenwich, U.K., 2000.
Mr. Kuldeep Gharat is a senior M.Tech student at CSE, IIT Bombay, working in the field of data mining under Prof. Sunita Sarawagi. His current work involves design of algorithms for aggregate queries in Approximate Databases.
Prof. Sunita Sarawagi is currently working as an associate professor at KReSIT. She is one of the top researchers in field of datamining and data warehousing. Her fields of interest also include machine learning and databases. She holds many patents in data mining and related fields.
Prof. Soumen Chakrabarti is currently at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, where he has been an Associate professor since 2003. His current research interests include question answering, Web analysis, monitoring and search, mining irregular and relational data, and textual data integration.
Prof. Jayant Haritsa is on the faculty of the Supercomputer Education & Research Centre and the Department of Computer Science & Automation at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His research interests are in Database Systems (Query Optimization, Data Mining, XML Databases, Biological Databases, Multi-lingual Databases)
Prof. S. Sudarshan is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Mumbai (Bombay). He is an author of over 60 papers in different areas of database systems, and holds 13 patents. His current research interests include query processing and optimization, authorization, and keyword querying of databases. In addition to being the architect of several software systems dealing with database internals, he has also been responsible for building and maintaining a variety of database applications used in IIT Bombay.
Prof. Bernard L. Menezes is currently working as a professor at KReSIT. His areas of interest span Information Appliances, Electronic Commerce, Java Security, and Parallel Computing. He has been granted many accolades, including National Science Foundation and CISE Research Instrumentation Award in Aug. 1989 with J. Ja'Ja, Minta Martin Award in May 1989, etc.
Mr. Vadiraja Bhatt is a Senior Software Engineer with Sybase Inc., Pune and has actively contributed to database products of Sybase. He is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and had completed his postgraduation from CSE department in 1994.
