Welcome to Prabhat '06. Prabhat is a workshop aimed at introducing the basic fundamentals and concepts about the Open Source Software movement and about the wonderfully rich world of the Linux operating system environment. The now ubiquitous spread of computing in the academic and commercial world has made it necessary for students and researchers to become familiar with software tools and technologies. Additionally, the easy accessibility of software under the Open Source movement, in particular in association with Linux, has made learning and using computers a more democratic and comfortable experience. We at KReSIT aim, via this workshop, at providing a glimpse of this world and a flavour of the possibilities that lie within. The target audience of this workshop are students who are new to the institute and who have little or no knowledge of Linux. The contents include an introduction to using Linux, Operating Systems and Linux concepts, Linux commands, Networking in the Institute, Configuration and some hands-on experience. Prabhat '06 is a two day workshop to be held on 19th August (Sat) and 20th August (Sun), 2006. Day 1 has talks and demonstrations by various speakers, while Day 2 will consist of lab sessions. The sidebars of this page contain further details on schedules and speakers. Each participant is provided with handouts accompanying the slides as well as a Certificate of Participation upon completion. The workshop is organised by the M.Tech students of The Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology with support from the KReSIT office and faculty.
