After encountering frequent problems
with the current version of squirrel mail,
We upgraded to a new version(1.4.2) of squirrel mail.
We also made a few changes in configuration to avoid some errors.
We will also stop using the old version after some time.
So, all the users have to do the changes explained below.

Currently the new webmail is deployed for use at
www.it.iitb.ac.in/mail2

CAUTION:
----------------
Switch to the new webmail completely.
Using both old and new ones will lead to inconsistencies.

Everyone who want to use the new webmail should follow these steps. 

1.  Login
------------
Login to in the new webmail.
Dont do anything, simply logout.
it will create a "SQMAIL" folder in your home directory on the server. it
will also create 3 files : INBOX.Drafts, INBOX.Sent, INBOX.Trash Delete
these 3 files. (dont delete the SQMAIL directory)

The 3 files (INBOX.Drafts, INBOX.Sent, INBOX.Trash)
should be deleted from the SQMAIL directory, not from the home directoy.
These 3 files will be in home directory also, they should not be deleted.


2. Move files
------------------
Move the following files
from your home directoy to the newly created SQMAIL directory
INBOX.Drafts
INBOX.Sent
INBOX.Trash

If you created any folders in webmail previously,
they will be created as files in your home directory.
You have to move them also.
for e.g. If you created a folder named "friends" in webmail,
there will be a file named "friends" in your home directory on the server.
so, you have to move the "firends" file to SQMAIL directory.

3.Subscribe to folders
-----------------------------
If you didnt create any folders previously, you can safely skip this step.
The 3 files (INBOX.Drafts, INBOX.Sent, INBOX.Trash)
will be displayed by default, without doing any modifications.
But, you have to subscribe to other folders.
click the "folders" link in the top menu,
you will be displayed a list of all the folders at the bottom of the page.
select all the folders and press the "subscribe" button.
refresh the page and check if the folder are displayed on the left panel.

4. Other changes
----------------------
Your old settings like
- color scheme,
- signatures,
- message filters etc
which you had done earlier will be lost.
so, you have to customize it again.
