Shri Bhagubhai Mafatlal Polytechnic (S.B.M.P.) is an autonomous institute recognized by the Government of Maharashtra. It employs Multi Point Entry and Credit System (MPECS). In MPECS, a subject is accepted as a unit for evaluation rather than group of subjects for a semester. The grading system used is Grade Point Average (G.P.A.).

FOR I, II, III, IV, V & VII SEMESTERS:
Classes are awarded for each semester on the basis of Grade Point Average obtained in that semester. The various classes used for grading system are as follows:

Grade Point per Subject = (Marks Obtained / Maximum Marks) x 10
Grade Point Average = Total (Grade Point x Credit) / (Total Credits)
Each semester consists of total 16 weeks.
The maximum number of subjects for which a student can register is restricted to 25 credits and 7 subjects per semester.
Class for the award of Diploma in Industrial Electronics is based on the marks obtained in Seventh and Eighth semesters with equal weightage given to both the semesters.
FOR VI & VIII SEMESTERS
The Sixth and Eighth semesters are meant for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the INPLANT TRAINING respectively. The training is organized in the relevant industry. Student has to submit fortnightly progress report and a final dissertation report on his activities during training period. In VIII semester, the student is assigned a project on which he has to submit a detailed report upon completion of the training.
Minimum total credits required for Sixth and Eighth semester are 105 and 130 respectively. Both the phases of training have duration of six months.
Each phase of training is assigned 15 credits and consists of 200 marks.
