Midsems over.... hurray... what next? ITA Trek... what else?
Atleast this was what the talk of the town was for all the MTech '05 around in KReSIT. The
Trek Planning commission (aka ITA) learned a lot of things from the last year's trek. Every
step, every move, every plan was relooked and looked again. There was no space for an error
similar to last year. And also given the fact that the Alumni meet didn't go well this year.
They had to put 200% in whatever they did. And so it happened.
A Trek was organised. No a Trek was well organised. After lots of discussion, meetings,
mailings, ITA came up with the destination Sagargad + Nagaon Beach and the date for the
Trek.
No wonder success has this simple formula: do your best, and people may like it. And so we
did it. Not thinking if it was the right place. Not thinking if it was the right time of the
year. And ofcourse Hard Work pays off. I felt the success of the trek in the out-of-season
rain that poured like cats and dogs the moment we left Mumbai. It was as if somebody sent
those rain clouds just for us.
At 9:30AM, we reached a place called Karnala; Karnala Bird Sanctuary. Karnala was on our
list of probable places for trekking. We stopped for a chai.
What better than having a hot
chai in a road side dhaba with the rain pouring like anything.
Everything was going by the
plan. We reached Alibaugh at around 10:30AM. But only after reaching Alibaugh did we realise
that the destination was some 2Kms behind. The nearest village close to the highway was
Khandala. From there a one way kachcha road leads you to the base village, Ramwadi. The
village was situated right at the base of the mountain. From there on there was no looking
back. 80+ people, stomach filled with parantas headed towards the destination: Sagargad,
under the pouring rain. It was just the way we wanted it to happen.
It won't make justice to call the trek an easy one. But, we did it. We reached a place
called Siddheshwar Temple. It falls on the mid-way to Sagargad. The place is unforgettable.
It had a Shiv Temple, a river flowing by, and most of all a cliff just behind the temple
where the river becomes a waterfall. That's not all. We walked a few metres against the
river and to our surprise found a small waterfall, a Cascade. To tell you the place was not
in ITA's itenary. It was out of the blue, an unexpected one. But, an amazing place.
Locked on three sides by trees and rocks, the water came in from one side over the rocks and
left through the fourth side.
Some knew that this wasn't all. They had to go to Sagargad. After all that was the main goal
of this trek. To tell you, Sagargad is a place where Shivaji Maharaj kept his defences. The
reason being that the place had cliffs on three sides. But alas, time didn't permit those
pitty fellows to visualise this wonder.
The trek got over, but the trip wasn't. Nagaon beach was still to be visited. So we drove to
Nagaon beack after an ITA sponsored lunch at a hotel in Alibaugh. Nagaon beach is a secluded
beach of all other beaches along this costline. This white sand beach was a great place to
have some football and throwball.
Time went by, and we left the place as soon as it started getting dark. We knew it was a
long way to Powai, and had to do the dinner on the way. After around 2 hours of travelling
we stopped for dinner at the same road side dhabba at Karnala. Had something to eat, and
again left for Mumbai. But as usual, the bus broke down. You may call it stupidity, but
thankfully we had two buses. Though we were just one bus full of people, the other bus
seemed useful both in travelling from Khandala to Ramwadi and in travelling back from
Karnala to IITB.
Overall, it was a great trek, full of adventure, surprises, scenic beauties and lots of fun. Thanks to ITA, thanks to the rains, thanks to all those people who came and made it a wonderfull trip to remember for ever. Click here for the snaps.

On August 15th, 2006, KReSIT was shining patriotism on the top three floors of KReSIT. ITA organised Lab decoration competition to celebrate the completion of 59 years after India's freedom. All of MTech '05 and '06 took part in it and made their lab India Special. To judge this event, Shruti P. Mahambre a Phd. student from the same department was called. Here is what she said about the event and the winners:
"Lab 210 came across as a complete winner, for all the innovative ideas that they put across. Especially mapping the pics of the lab occupants to the freedom fighters. The painted-hand-prints with each ones identity (depicting the flag) was awesome. And the "Jai Hind" backdrop, merely added to the overall ambience of the Independence Day. Congratulations!!
"Lab 313 was a very very close second. Excellent decor. One point worth mentioning was - the lab, though one of the bigger labs, was covered with the decor very effectively ! No gaping open spaces - Good job ! The 3 fans depicting the tri-color (with the speeds adjusted, just right) was fantabulous :) Kudos !!!
"Although there were just two prizes, some of the labs worth mentioning were Lab 209 for their good reuse of packing material to depict the country name in tricolor, and Lab 310 for their General decoration and India map!
Photos soon to come....

Adios Amigos!
It was again the time of the year, for the juniors to express their goodbyes to the passing out seniors from the school. The ethos of KReSIT - it's lab culture, it's work culture - evolves strong bonds between the seniors and juniors, over a span of just a year. It comes as no surprise that the juniors are always so enthusiastic to make the Farewell a memorable event.
The evening kick-started with some awesome musical performances by KReSIT's music enthusiasts. The guitars, synths and vocals are all it takes to create some great music for us folks. From really peppy tracks to some heart-felt ones, were performedby Karthik, Amol, Ashu and not to forget Amar. Hats off to them and the wonderful audience, we had such a good time.
Then was the really fun part - the party games. Students and faculty alike, participated in all their enthusiasm and wit. We got them to making hep-clothes out of paper, playing the dumbies and hitting targets blind-folded. Oh yes, and all the shouting, screaming and jumping that went along with it.
Later in the evening, dinner was hosted at Gulmohar. Ah' one of the best ones we'd ever had in that restaurant. And did we forget to mention the kulfi for the deserts!
The profile reading was an all nighter. Its touching to see every life unfold - To know the aspirations, the life, the traits, the flaws of every one. To talk about it, joke about it. And finally to realize - Well, yeah. Thats life in IIT! And we have loved every bit of it.
Adios our friends. You have been much more than our seniors - Our friends, mentors, advisors, buddies, lab'ies and more importantly, our inspiration!

| Though the official ITA Handover dindn't happen this year, the ITA changeover clearly happened. A well contested election organised by the previous office bearers gave way to the new ITA council. |
