All play and no work
I like to read Bengali (ahem, listen only!), English and Hindi
literature. Some of my all time favorite books are: Aronyak by
Bibhuti Bhusan Banerjee, historical stories
by Sharadindu
Bandyopadhyay, and Sei Somoy
by Sunil
Gangopadhyay.
It is a pity that such great regional
literature is being over-shadowed by high-ad budget literature in
this media dominated world, not
to mention the resulting mono-culture that the world seems to be
headed towards.
Nothing like music to clear the mental cobwebs and tame the beast. I
listen to various kinds of Indian music.
(Here's
a dreamy piece from the master Ghazal singer: Ghulam Ali)
I love nature and consequently enjoy all nature related activities
like trekking, bird-watching, and traveling to places of natural
beauty. Check out Bombay Natural History
Society (BNHS) if you enjoy educational weekend outings.
I also enjoy watching movies. Who doesn't?
I swim under duress and when the weather is just right (which is
about twice in a year in Mumbai). I would rather be hiking.
Worries
- End of oil
- Pollution and global warming
- Human Population explosion. Check out these revealing charts and compare India's age distribution with most other stabler nation's.
- Species extinction: see any connection with the point above?
- and when all else fails, the expansion of the universe and the sky falling on my head :)
