Introduction

"DataBase Management System" is taught to computer science and information technology and students in the engineering, MCA, Degree colleges. Databases are used not only in computer and information technology department but in all other industries too.

Whenever there is need of storing and preserving data, databases are used. They are used to add, retrieve, edit, and delete contents from the stored data. Data is managed more efficiently and its query language retrieves data very quickly. It is used in industries where data is to be maintained, like shopping malls, banks, small and large scale industries, private and multinational companies, educational institutes, internet, and so on. It accepts requests from clients, that may require sorting and extracting data. Once the server has processed the request, it returns the information to the client. The data integrity feature prevents multiple users accessing and modifying the same information at the same time.

IIT Bombay, had conducted workshops, and trained teachers all over India through remote centres. The lectures were transmitted live, and were received at various remote centres across the country, through synchronous distance mode, along with the interaction of participants. The video, presentations, and downloads offered here will help students; teachers and working professionals learn and master the subject.
