Introduction
The international participants are requested to read the instructions and payment guidelines before filling the Google form for DWSIM workshop registration
DWSIM is a free and open source chemical process simulator for modeling and simulation of chemical processes. It is a multiplatform, CAPE-OPEN compliant process simulator for Windows, Linux, Android, macOS, and iOS. Built on the top of the Microsoft .NET and Mono Platforms and featuring a rich Graphical User Interface (GUI), DWSIM allows chemical engineering students and chemical engineers to better understand the behavior of their chemical systems by using rigorous thermodynamic and unit operations' models with no cost at all.
The FOSSEE project at IIT Bombay (https://fossee.in) has been promoting DWSIM, and other FLOSS, such as Scilab, Python, OpenFOAM, eSim, Osdag, OpenModelica, R, Drupal and Linux, and open source hardware, such as Arduino and OpenPLC. FOSSEE is also funded by NMEICT, MHRD.
Methodology of the Workshop
The interested participants have to register online and pay the registration fee. The registration form will be available until 16th August 2020. The registered participants will receive a mail on 17th August 2020 consisting of one of the process flowsheets listed here to simulate using DWSIM. Participants will have to solve the flowsheet allotted by us and submit it, on or before 22nd August 2020. The submitted simulation will then be reviewed by the DWSIM expert team. If the submitted simulation is approved, the participants will be allowed to attend the “DWSIM-Advanced” workshop. If the submitted simulation is not approved, those participants will be automatically registered to the “DWSIM-Beginner” workshop. No separate fee will be charged for the participants who are moved from DWSIM-Advanced to the DWSIM-Beginner workshop. The decision of the FOSSEE team about the approval/rejection of the flowsheet is final. No request for refund of fee will be entertained, in case any participant doesn’t qualify to attend the DWSIM-Advanced workshop. Final list of participants who are selected for DWSIM-Advanced will be announced on 23rd August 2020.
The “DWSIM-Advanced” workshop will cover 4-hours of watching advanced spoken tutorials on DWSIM and live online lectures on some topics. Additionally, there will be a presentation/discussion session on the process flowsheets which the participants would have simulated to qualify for attending the advanced workshop.
Course content
The DWSIM-Advanced workshop will have two parts.
A. About 4 hours of learning the below listed advanced topics on DWSIM using a mix of pre-recorded spoken tutorials and live lectures.
- Compound Creation Tool
- Custom Modeling using Python
- Custom Modeling using Scilab
- Simulating Heterogeneous Catalytic Reactions
- Petroleum Characterization
B. About 2 hours of presentation/discussion session on the process flowsheets which the participants would have simulated to qualify for attending the “DWSIM-Advanced” workshop.
Teaching Faculty
- Prof. Kannan M Moudgalya, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay
- FOSSEE and Spoken Tutorial Teams, IIT Bombay
Who Should Attend
This DWSIM-Advanced workshop will be useful to students, faculty, and working professionals from the chemical engineering and allied fields who have a working knowledge of DWSIM and are already well aware of the DWSIM Spoken Tutorials available under the basic level.
Please note that the participation in the DWSIM-Advanced workshop is subject to the approval/disapproval of the submitted simulation as mentioned under the “Methodology of the Workshop” section.
Duration and Venue
The DWSIM-Advanced workshop will be conducted online on Tuesday, 25 August 2020 from 10 A.M to 5 P.M
Criteria for Certification
Participation certificates will be provided to all participants after successful completion of the workshop, in an electronic form.
Participants who attend the workshop will be given an option to act as a TA (Teaching Assistant) for the DWSIM-Beginner workshop to be conducted on 29th August 2020. All such participants will be given a TA certificate. Details about the responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant will be informed later.
