Introduction
Apps on Physics are simulations that help to understand basic concepts of physics. The Apps are interactive and illustrate the concepts of Physics. These Apps are easy to use and freely downloadable. They are created in Java and HTML file formats. The HTML format Apps are browser-based, so they can run on Windows, Mac OSX and Linux operating systems. Apps allow users to solve numericals based on the concept shown in the App. These apps can be used for classroom teaching and for conducting practicals.
The FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project at IIT Bombay (https://fossee.in) has been promoting FLOSS, such as PhET, Chemcollective VLabs, Jmol, Gnuplot, OpenFOAM, Scilab, Python, R, Linux, and open-source hardware, such as Arduino and OpenPLC. The FOSSEE project is funded by NMEICT, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
Methodology of the Workshop
The pilot workshop will be for 4 hours, with a short lecture and hands-on session. The workshop will be conducted using a mix of pre-recorded spoken tutorial videos with side-by-side learning. Each tutorial has practice problems/assignments to get a good understanding of each topic.
All participants will get the Spoken Tutorials on Apps on Physics tutorial series.
Benefits of the Workshop
- Learn to understand the basic concepts of physics using Apps on Physics.
- Learn to solve numericals based on the concepts.
- Design experiments for conducting practicals.
- e-Certificate for attending the pilot Apps on Physics workshop.
