Introduction

Developed jointly by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and IIT Bombay, the Indian Culture Portal (www.indianculture.gov.in) is part of the project- ‘National Virtual Library of India’ (NVLI). Conceptualised in 2019, the portal hosts digital collections from museums, libraries and cultural organisations across the country, and creates new high-quality digital resources that can be used to enhance learning and nurture an appreciation for Indian culture.

As part of this endeavour, NVLI has also joined as a collaborator in a new documentation project launched by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India- the Digital District Repository (DDR). This ambitious project aims to source and document stories related to the freedom struggle from every district in India.

Educators from all over the country are invited to attend a day-long workshop at IIT Bombay.

The aim of this workshop is to-

  • Introduce participants to the Indian Culture Portal and the Digital District Repository project.
  • Train participants to use the resources available on the Indian Culture Portal to ideate, design and execute lesson plans and learning interventions for learners.
  • Share with participants a demonstration on current documentation techniques.
  • Consult with participants to better understand any challenges that they might face (lack of access to certain research material, for instance).
  • Collaborate with them to resolve any challenges.
  • Offer opportunities for the best students/faculty of participating institutions to contribute to the DDR project and the Indian Culture Portal on an honorarium basis.
  • Offer full time employment opportunities to the best students of the participating institutions for the above discussed project work.
