Introduction
IIT Bombay has been involved with distance synchronous education, since year 2000. We have trained over 1,00,000 teachers, in partnership with IIT Kharagpur, under the T10KT (Train 10 Thousand Teachers at a time) project sponsored by NMEICT. Majority of the training workshops focused core domain topics in Science and Engineering, like Computer Science or Thermodynamics etc. These programmes have been well received by the participating faculty.
Use of ICT tools and flipped-classroom with associated pedagogy of active learning, has been proven by educational researchers to increase effectiveness of teaching-learning. However, the lack of exposure to such proven best practices is creating a barrier for many faculty to effectively integrate ICT tools in their regular practice. It thus becomes an urgent national requirement that all our teachers, especially those teaching in our professional colleges, are empowered to use technology effectively using these best practices so that their students benefit.
In the recent concluded FDP on “Use of ICT in Education for online and blended Learning”, we had more than 4000 participants getting exposed to best practices associated with MOODLE, Wordpress and Screencasts. 253 participants emerged as top performers based on the various activities in this FDP. To take this initiative further, we are organizing “Orientation workshop” on 25th and 26th March, 2017, for such participants. In this, the sessions will have focus on possible activities and strategies through which faculty associated with the programme can leverage similar efforts within their own operating context.
