Instructions for Enrolling in the workshop Participating Remote Centers

Help us spread -

Introduction

An important initiative has been taken by IIT Bombay to work with Engineering Colleges in the country, to enhance the teaching skills of our faculty colleagues in core Engineering and Science Subjects. Under this project called "Empowerment of Students & Teachers through Synchronous & Asynchronous Instruction," IIT Bombay conducts two-week ISTE workshops during the vacation period in summer and winter. Live lectures are given by IIT faculty. The participating teachers attend at a remote center close to their own college, and also attend tutorial and lab sessions conducted in the same center. The lecture transmission and live interaction takes place through distance mode using the AVIEW technology and the internet, at selected remote centers across the country. This initiative is part of the National Mission on Education through ICT, supported by MHRD. Faculty coordinators are appointed at each remote center, to handle the technology infrastructure and other operational logistics. Additionally, for each workshop, there is a workshop faculty coordinator for that subject who will help in the conduct of labs and tutorials at that center.

Since December 2009, we have conducted two-week ISTE workshops on "Effective teaching/ learning of Computer Programming," "Database Management Systems," "Basic Electronics," "Thermodynamics," "Software Development Techniques for Teachers of Engineering and Science Colleges," "Heat Transfer," "Solar Photovoltaics," "Introduction to Research Methodology" and "Engineering Thermodynamics." We have reached more than 24,500 teachers and helped them to enhance their teaching skills at around 235 distinct Remote Centers across the country.

In the backdrop of the success of these workshops, we now announce another 2-day ISTE workshop, on Research Methods in Educational Technology, to be held in February 2013.

Course content

Topics in the workshop will include:

  • What are different types of research problems in educational technology
  • How to read and analyze a research paper in educational technology
  • How to convert your innovative teaching and learning idea into a research study
  • How to plan, conduct and analyze your experimental study in educational technology
  • What are various techniques to evaluate the effectiveness of your study
  • How to create robust measurement instruments (such as questionnaires)

Who Should Attend

This workshop is meant for faculty members teaching at the tertiary level, in Engineering and Science, who intend to conduct research in educational technology. We intend that the guidelines and skills discussed in the workshop will help participants improve the chances of getting their paper accepted. We also encourage Ph.D students who are interested in educational technology research to participate in this workshop. This workshop is only for faculty of the existing Remote Centers of IIT Bombay. Kindly note that the this workshop is only for teachers of engineering and science subjects. It is not for faculty of Humanities or Management Sciences.

The workshop will contain theory sessions on research methods in educational technology, as well as practical sessions wherein participants will get an opportunity to apply knowledge and guidelines from the workshop. During the workshop, participants will identify the topic for their educational technology research. In the practical sessions, participants will work on several exercises individually and in teams to begin writing educational technology research papers. In addition, they will participate in peer-review sessions. Participants will be expected to complete homework assignments before and after the workshop.

Important Note:

It is mandatory that while registering for the workshop, the participants should submit a scanned copy of a letter from the principal/ Head of the Institute permitting them to attend the workshop. The permission letter should be in the format provided in our registration form. Registration without this letter will not be considered.

Successful completion of the assignments given during the workshop is mandatory for certification.

Pre-workshop submission:

Participants will be expected to submit a pre-workshop assignment over Moodle. They will be given a Moodle log-in as soon as their online registration is complete. Some workshop sessions will be based on the assignment; hence all participants are required to complete the assignment. Further details of the assignments will be available on Moodle.

Duration and Venue

The duration of the workshop is 2 days. The workshop will be conducted over two consecutive Saturdays (2nd Feb 2013 and 9th Feb 2013), with Moodle based assignments in-between.

Course Fee

Since the workshop is partly funded by the National Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Government of India), there is no course fee for participation.

How to Apply

Those wishing to attend this course, the registration will open from 7th January 2013

Enrollment will be strictly online, and no other mode of application will be entertained.
