Participants who we cannot accommodate on the 1st day(16 May), they would be given the video interaction slot of 17 or 18 May , depending on the registration.

IIT Bombay has conducted many large-scale teacher training workshops under the Train 10,000 Teachers (T10KT) programme, sponsored by the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), MHRD, Govt. of India, and trained over 2,00,000 teachers.

Another successful technology developed at IIT Bombay is Spoken Tutorial, using which about 50 lakh students have been trained on various ICT topics. The effectiveness of this method can be seen from the testimonials available here: https://spoken-tutorial.org/testimonials/media/?foss=70 and the TEDx talk. This project is funded by NMEICT, MHRD.

The Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) at IIT Bombay, funded by the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching ( PMMMNMTT ) , MHRD, Govt. of India, has conducted many blended workshops combining the above two technologies, namely, T10KT and Spoken Tutorials.

In the next blended workshop, we would like to try two new technologies: BodhiTree with pre-recorded videos and Google meet for live interactions. Using this combination, we now plan to conduct the workshop “Effective and Efficient Online Teaching in the Age of Corona: A Hands-On Workshop” on Saturday, 16 May 2020.

BodhiTree can be thought of as a video book, developed at IIT Bombay by Prof. Kameswari Chebrolu and her team. It has been extensively used at IIT Bombay in various courses.

Methodology of the Large-scale Workshop

After the online registration, the online study material will be shared with the registered participants. If there are any queries then they may either post the query on the BodhiTree discussion forum or they may ask their query during the online interaction with IIT Bombay course instructors.

The workshop itself will be 4-hours of watching relevant pre-recorded videos with side-by-side learning, hands-on training, interaction with and help from course instructors. The BodhiTree platform supports interactive learning: there will be questions within each video, as well as questions outside the video. These questions will help you learn.

Course content

1. Flipped classes for online teaching, their relevance in the current situation, and how to conduct them

2. Tools to aid flipped classes:
a. How to create videos? Powerpoint, OBS, Pen software (OneNote, xournal)
b. How to edit created videos? openshot, windows movie maker
c. How to reduce size of created videos? Openshot
d. Where to upload course material: videos, slides, notes, quizzes: Google drive, LMS: BodhiTree
e. How to manage and interact asynchronously with students via web and android app? LMS: BodhiTree
f. How to interact synchronously (live) with students? Google meet, zoom

3. Guidance in installation and operation of the above software tools

Who Should Attend

As this workshop is not subject-specific, teaching faculty from all colleges (engineering, sciences, arts, commerce, management, law, medicine, etc.), polytechnic colleges, ITIs, and schools, can attend. Teachers registered in any Masters programme, and also all Research Scholars can also participate.

Why you should attend: The flipped classroom teaching model has numerous advantages: (1) much better teaching and learning experience, (2) better physical distancing, (3) robust to network connectivity issues. This workshop will help you transition to this mode of effective AND efficient teaching.

Duration and Venue

The workshop will be conducted on Saturday, 16 May 2020. It will be conducted through blended mode, using the BodhiTree platform as well as Google meet for live interaction. The duration will be 4 hours for each participant. The exact schedule will be announced on 14 May 2020, as the exact timing will depend on the number of registrations.

Criteria for Certification

Two types of E-certificates will be provided:
1. “Participation” certificate will be given to those who attempt all of the in-video and out-of-video questions on BodhiTree.

2. “Successful completion” certificate will be provided to those who successfully (a) create video, (b) edit video, (c) upload it on to BodhiTree, (d) insert in-video and (e) out-of-video questions.

Course Fee

All our earlier blended workshops that did not involve any hardware charged Rs. 100 per participant. Because of COVID-19, however, there will be no fee for this workshop.

How to Apply

Enrollment will be strictly online, and no other mode of application will be entertained. The last date of registration is 14 May 2020, 12.30 pm.

There will be NO remote centres in this workshop. During the online registration, one should opt for 'IIT Bombay' as a remote centre. In the registration page, 'Maharashtra' should be selected as the state and 'Indian institute of Technology Bombay' as the remote centre.
