Introduction

We regret to inform you that we are postponing the 3 day workshop on PhET Simulations workshop scheduled on 22 April to 24 April 2021 to a later date.
New dates for the workshop will be announced soon. Registration fee will be refunded shortly.
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

PhETs are interactive simulations for topics in science and mathematics, suitable for elementary, middle school, high school and university level students.

Simulations are more effective for conceptual understanding and also are a great way to capture the students' attention. The focus of the simulation is on understanding the concept, cause and effect. PhET simulations are open source and hence free for all students and teachers. The simulations can be run online or downloaded to your computer.

The FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project at IIT Bombay (https://fossee.in) has been promoting PhET, and other free and open source software such as Jmol Application, ChemCollective Virtual Lab, Avogadro  and other FLOSS, such as OpenFOAM, Scilab, Python, eSim, Osdag, OpenModelica, R, Drupal and Linux, and open source hardware, such as Arduino and OpenPLC. The FOSSEE Project is funded by NMEICT, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.

Methodology of the Workshop

The workshop will be for 3 days, around 6 hrs of lectures/hands on session on each day. The workshop will be conducted using a mix of pre-recorded spoken tutorial videos with side by side learning and live lectures. Practice problems/assignments will also be provided after every topic followed by discussions on them to get a good understanding of each topic.

All participants will get Spoken Tutorials on PhET Simulations, video recording of all lectures and several solved problems. Using these, all those who are interested in conducting  PhET Simulations workshops by themselves can do so.  They will also get  an opportunity to contribute to the collaborative content creation activity of the FOSSEE Project.

Benefits of the Workshop

  • Understand how to use a PhET Simulation.
  • Design your own learning activity using a PhET simulation.
  • Create assignments that aid in student  assessment.
  • e-Certificate for attending the 3 day PhET simulation workshop.
